Cost Air Conditioner

How to Determine the Cost of Air Conditioners

The cost of air conditioning is a very interesting matter when considering purchasing an air conditioner today.   The cost of air conditioning is not necessarily directly related to the effectiveness of the air conditioner. The air conditioner has to be sized correctly in conjunction with the furnace. The furnace has to provide enough air to distribute through the house as well as a duct that has to be big enough to accommodate the desired effect.

When several items are considered we are then able to give air conditioning that would work effectively for the desired application. It’s important in air conditioning to be mindful that the cost of some items are not reflected in the other such as the refrigerant which is called Freon, and Freon is high in chlorine; which will deteriorate our ozone. So Freon costs environmentally are enormous and you are paying more for an air conditioner that does not have active chlorine; but the long terms effect are fantastic.
It’s also important in deciding which air conditioning unit to purchase to make sure one gets a scroll compressor since there are less moving parts.  Scroll compressors are anticipated to last much longer than the old traditional piston type compressors. So with these factors considered with the correct sizing, with the correct gas and energy efficiency - that is how you get effective air conditioning.

One must also be mindful that the delivery systems for most air conditioners are the ducts.  And the ducts in the older houses where not designed to accommodate these different air flows and design characteristics of modern air conditioners. So that’s also a very important consideration.

It’s also important to be very mindful that the objective of higher efficiency air conditioner is not only to lower your electrical costs but to reduce the load on the electrical grid and directly cause less pollution.

Energy Savings with Rebates

On your average 8 year old air conditioner - modern scroll compressor one can anticipate around a 30% saving in energy. The Eco Energy program is alive and well with provincial rebates still available. The federal rebates are still to be determined. Regardless it’s environmentally responsible to source an air conditioner that has the least environmental impact.
